Poem: I wish I were your phone
Although I’m primarily a storyteller, I decided to step outside my usual comfort zone and write a poem for the very first time. The inspiration came unexpectedly, and once I started writing, the words simply flowed. To my surprise, I finished the poem in just a few minutes.
I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. If the poem speaks to you, I’d be grateful if you would send a few words of encouragement to me at the email address given at the end of the poem. And if you notice anything that could be improved, I’d appreciate hearing that, too.
Even a few words from you would mean a great deal to me—and might just inspire me to write another one.

I Wish I Were Your Phone
I wish I were your phone.
You would hold me close,
and I would always be in your hands.
You would look at me with love,
and I would spend my days looking at you.
I wish I were your phone
With just a touch,
I would take you around the world through Google,
play your favorite songs on YouTube,
and fill your moments with videos
you love to watch.
I wish I were your phone.
No one would ever hurt you.
Well… perhaps a television show might make you cry,
but I would quickly find you something funny,
just to hear you laugh again.
I wish I were your phone.
Your fingers would touch me all day,
and I would always rest in your hands.
We could sit together for hours,
lost in our little world,
without caring about anything else.
I wish I were your phone.
For those precious moments,
the rest of the world would disappear—
every relationship, every responsibility,
everything would fade away
when you were with me,
and I was with you.
I wish I were your phone.

Perhaps one day,
while trying to keep you entertained,
my battery would begin to die.
But even then,
I would give you every last bit of myself.
I would keep making you smile,
keep giving you happiness,
even if it meant
giving up my very last breath.
I wish I were your phone.
And then you would leave me behind.
I would hang helplessly
from a charging cable,
forgotten in some quiet corner of the house—
alone, homeless,
waiting patiently for you.
I wish I were your phone.

I would wait for you to come back.
I would wonder when you would return,
when you would pick me up again,
hold me in your hands,
and once more forget the world
as we disappeared together
into that colorful world of the internet.
I wish I were your phone.
Every month,
you would recharge me
just to keep me alive a little longer.
My validity would be extended,
my world would be restored,
and carrying the whole world inside me,
I would hurry back to you.
Because all I ever wanted
was to be close to you.
I wish I were your phone.
I wish I were your phone.
