Story 2:
Grace of God : Introduction:
This motivational story is derived from a chapter of the ancient Hindu scripture, ‘Shri Mad Bhagavad Gita’. It is the most touching and beautiful story that explains the significance of the Grace of God – how important it is to be worthy of divine blessings. God loves every individual, but not everyone is equally deserving of His grace. In reality, who are the ones worthy of God’s grace? You will find the answer to this question in this story.
Beginning of Story:
In this story, there is a Sparrow that lays its eggs in a nest atop a tree by the seashore and eagerly awaits the hatching of its chicks. With great excitement, it envisions the day when its chicks will emerge from the eggs, and it will be overjoyed to see them.
So, one day, it leaves the nest to fetch food. At that moment, a wave from the sea comes and carries the nest away. Along with the nest, all the eggs also get swept away by the sea. When the Sparrow returns and realizes that its nest and eggs are gone, it goes to the sea and says, “Oh Sea! Due to a mistake, one of your waves has taken away my nest and eggs.” With tears in its eyes, it pleads, “Please return my eggs to me”.
Turning Point of Story:
So, the sea says, “Once I have done something, I cannot undo it. You go, I cannot return your nest and eggs.” The Sparrow responds, “So, does this mean I should leave without my nest and eggs? No, I cannot do that.” It continues to plead with the sea, crying, and says, “My eggs are my children, my dream. Please don’t shatter my dream. Please return my eggs to me.”
Due to this conversation, there’s a bit of commotion, and all the animals gather to find out what’s happening. They ask, “What’s going on, what’s happening?” At this moment, the sea gets angry and says, “Sparrow! You leave, or else I will take you with me.” The Sparrow retorts, “If you’re not returning my eggs right now, not giving me my children, then I will dry up and take my eggs with me. I will show you that.”
The sea bursts into hearty laughter and says, “What! You’ll dry me up? You’ll dry me up? I’ve seen this spectacle of yours for a long time. Start the show!”
So, the Sparrow takes water from the sea in its tiny beak and starts carrying it to another place, dropping it there. All the animals and birds gather there and warn the Sparrow, “Hey, Sparrow! You’ve begun an impossible task. You can never dry up the sea. You will die.”
The Sparrow replies, “My children are my dream, and life has no meaning, livimng without my dream. What’s the point of living like this? It’s better for me to die. But I want my eggs.” It continues to cry and fills its beak with seawater, then drops it at another place. The sea, too, starts laughing and thinks, “What is this crazy Sparrow doing?”
Gradually, the news spreads, and it reaches the mighty king of birds, Garuda (the divine vehicle of Lord Vishnu). He becomes aware of the courageous feat of a small bird called the Sparrow. She has taken up the enormous task of drying up the sea. Intrigued, Garuda flies over to witness this and observes a group of 5-10 minutes Sparrow struggling near a distant tree.
As Garuda witnesses the determined struggle of the crying Sparrow his heart is deeply touched. He approaches the sea and questions, “Why don’t you return her eggs?” The sea responds, “Once I have done something, I cannot undo it. I will not return the eggs.”
Garuda states, “You should return the eggs to her; she is just a small bird.” The sea replies, “No! I cannot return them.” Garuda then says, “If you don’t return the Sparrow’s eggs, I will have to intervene. What she was doing, I will do as well. And you know very well, that once I undertake something, I will complete it in one go. If you want to return her eggs, do it; otherwise, I will start my task.”
So the sea, with folded hands, returns the egg.
The moral of the Story:
This story is found in the Bhagavad Gita. The essence is that if you are giving you’re the best effort, then God himself will come and struggle alongside you, and this is referred to as grace. Grace or blessings are what we receive as a result of our steadfast determination. We may be working, but are we really struggling, giving our utmost? It is determined above whether you will receive grace or not.
The grace we seek is closely tied to our strong determination. We are working, but are we truly struggling? If you want to receive grace, you need to give your best effort, that’s it. It’s good to say that you are working diligently, but without struggle, you won’t receive grace. We believe that there is a supernatural power which is guiding us. Therefore, we must surely strive to attain grace, and not everyone receives it. You need to demonstrate your struggle to earn it.” Have a magnificent transformation in your life. My best wishes are with you all. May God bless you with His ‘Grace’.
